Violator

Hi folks, just got a slew of notices from Mediafire regarding removal of files in violation of their terms. I guess this is it, atleast for now. I'm curious though, who keeps reporting the files? What's your motivation? Please leave a comment and explain yourself, anonymously if you prefer. I just want to know. My motivation is to dig up and share forgotten music that was never released commercially. Everything presented here has been out of print for decades. There's no profit in this for me, quite the contrary. Come on, speak up!

  1. It may not be any of us, trondie. It might be scour bots that look for names of artists and record companies and file "violation" notices with hosts like MediaFire automatically.
I do wish I weren't still having trouble getting your file list at HUSH seek, but I did find an intermediary who can, assuming that most recent Golden Ring is in your shares.

  2. You might want to consider going private-several blogs I follow have done that. Not so wide an audience, but protection from finks-and you know your members like what you have.

  6. Would hate to see Dusty Shelf go the way of Holy Warbles... let us know if you will be setting up shop privately or moving elsewhere. I'll add my thanks for all the great library finds you've given us!

  7. What the hell DID happen to Holy Warbles, anyway?
Not 4Shared, BTW... I think they're gone. Sharebee is the one you want.

  11. Hello,

    https://www.wetransfer.com/

I believe it's time limited (2 weeks) but it's a very professional site. Once the 2 weeks period goes I suggest a follower of ptronds work, re-up's another wetransfer link!

    Great work Trondie ;)

    Bob.

  12. Hello,

Bob again. I've wetransfered the last 'Peter Thomas' album as a test.

That would be a working prototrond (see what I did there :)

    The decision is yours Trond.

    Best,

    Bob!

  15. I love Bob's idea. Anyone willing to re-up this to wetransfer, please?
I like it as it creates more of a community and makes blogging less one-sided/ isolated.

    1. To clarify: "What a pisser" refers to the situation - like when Ted Striker said it in "Airplane". ptrond, you're a great guy, it's a shame your stuff got pulled again.

  17. And litlgrey, 4Shared is still around. However, not only do you have to register to upload, but you have to register to download too.

  20. As usual, I'm behind on this, but I support what everyone has said. I thought the WeTransfer system worked well, though it turned out that I had already downloaded the file. Your site is consistently excellent, and I'd hate to see it disappear.

Unfortunately, the blog sharing is coming to an end.
Tons of blogs and forums are going down soon...
All the filesharing services are now under a big pressure since that case with MU...
      :(

  26. any chance for re-uploading all the music into new server?

    amazing blog man keep up!

  27. thanks for not giving up on the blog, your work is highly appreciated. So many times I've seen links get deaded or complaints submitted that made absolutely no sense. Really seems like these agencies have no clue what they're doing most of the time.
The new host you've been using seems to be pretty good so far. Thanks for keeping on!

  28. You're amazing dude, it's horrible how things are closing in on something so honest and honourable. Like an Anon said earlier, you've made our musical lives richer. We're out here ready to support you, and I hope a way to continue unhindered will be found!

  31. Hey Pornotrond, I am totally gutted that lots of your posts have been pulled or links rerouted (Yan Tregger's Hypnosis, I feel like crying!)

I have always cheerleaded Mediafire in the past and have had an account for years but it seems there has been an outbreak of the fascist mind amongst their policy makers and it seems the bots they send out to scour the files stored on their servers have gone gaga deranged - I read recently someone got all their files pulled because the song titles were similar to a couple of copyrighted book titles!

So it maybe as litlgrey says, that the copyright MF scour bots are on copyright steroids but equally, there are some total assholes out there so who knows.

One idea I thought is to ask people to reup the albums they like using their own file sharing accounts and post the links in the comments under the post... maybe reward regular re-posters with the occasional FLAC-WAV copy and/or an advanced copy of a future album post...

Not that any of us should be rewarded, really, we should all be reposting links as a thanks to all the hard work and effort PT puts into the blog.....
